As a rule, if you experience severe pain or have an appliance problem you can\u2019t take care of on your own, call our office and schedule an appointment.<\/p>\n<h3>Common Emergencies<\/h3>\n<p>There are actually quite a few things you can do if something goes wrong with your orthodontic appliance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"uk-grid\">\n<div class=\"uk-width-medium@s uk-text-center\"><img src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ortho-Emergency-Care-04-300x219-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-width-expand\">\n<h4>Loose Band Or Bracket<\/h4>\n<p>If the band or bracket is still attached to the archwire,\u00a0<strong>leave it there and use wax to alleviate any discomfort<\/strong>. If it comes completely loose, wrap it in tissue and\u00a0<strong>call us to schedule a repair appointment.<\/strong>\u00a0Don\u2019t just wait until your next regular appointment, because broken orthodontic appliances can delay treatment!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-grid\">\n<div class=\"uk-width-medium@s uk-text-center\"><img src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ortho-Emergency-Care-01-300x217-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-width-expand\">\n<h4>Loose Wire<\/h4>\n<p>If you can, put the wire back in place using tweezers or needle nose pliers. You can also\u00a0<strong>use a piece of dental floss to tie the wire in place<\/strong>, and as a last resort, you can\u00a0<strong>use nail clippers to trim the wire<\/strong>\u00a0behind the last bracket it is securely attached to. If the wire is uncomfortable, place wax over it and schedule a repair appointment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-grid\">\n<div class=\"uk-width-medium@s uk-text-center\"><img src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ortho-Emergency-Care-02-300x217-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-width-expand\">\n<h4>Poking Wire<\/h4>\n<p>If a wire from your braces is poking out, you can\u00a0<strong>use a pencil eraser<\/strong>\u00a0to push it down or\u00a0<strong>use wax to cover it<\/strong>. Make sure that the wire that is poking you is\u00a0<strong>dry and clean before you cover it with wax.<\/strong>\u00a0Also, remember to remove the wax before eating and brushing your teeth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-grid\">\n<div class=\"uk-width-medium@s uk-text-center\"><img src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Ortho-Emergency-Care-03-300x217-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"uk-width-expand\">\n<h4>General Soreness<\/h4>\n<p>Each time you get your braces tightened, you may feel soreness in your mouth that can make it difficult to chew.
