Breast Implant Myths

woman breast for surgery of breast implantMyths have a way of living on and on, even if they simply aren’t true. If you are considering breast implants, things you’ve heard about this procedure over the years have no doubt been on your mind. Read on for more information about breast implants, and why some of the things you’ve heard simply aren’t true.

Myth #1: You can’t breastfeed after you get implants

For the majority of patients, the ability to produce milk is not affected by implants, which can be placed in such a way as to not interfere with mammary glands or milk ducts.

Myth #2: Breast implants aren’t safe

This may be what concerns women the most, and for good reason. However, thousands of women get breast implants every year and live with them for years with no problems. Please feel free to ask your doctor about the risks involved and discuss your concerns with him or her.

Myth #3: They will need to be replaced in a few years

Breast implants are made to last. They may need to be replaced over time, but some women’s implants last for decades with no problems.

Myth #4: They will look obviously fake

You may not want implants because you are concerned they won’t look natural. However, with the right surgeon, the right implants, and the right technique, you can have implants that look natural and beautiful.

Myth #5: Breast implant surgery is painful and recovery is hard

The thought of the pain and downtime involved in a surgical procedure may be the reason you have decided against a breast implant procedure. However, recovery from this type of procedure is not as difficult as you might think. Most patients report only discomfort, not pain, and recovery typically only takes about 2 to 4 weeks.

Learning all you can before deciding to go through with a surgical procedure or not is a smart move. Dr. Gary J. Price and his staff want to make sure that all of your questions are answered so that you can make the best decision possible. Which kind of breast implant is right for you?

Doctor showing silicone implant for breast augmentation to patientHave you been considering breast augmentation? It is a procedure that can do wonders for your figure and your self-confidence. You no doubt have many questions, and one place to start is getting information on the different kinds of implants you have to choose from.

Saline

A benefit of saline implants, which are filled with sterile salt water, is that they feel very natural. Another benefit is that if there is a leak in the implant, the saline will be harmlessly absorbed by the body, although the implant will collapse.

Silicone

Silicone implants also feel very natural, and they come in a wide variety of sizes. If a silicone implant leaks, its design will ensure that it will not collapse; however, after the surgery, you will need to visit your doctor regularly to make sure that the implant is still in good condition.

Ideal implants

Ideal breast implants are a fairly new addition to a patient’s breast augmentation choices. They have many benefits: they look and feel natural and they are made in such a way that they do not wrinkle and won’t collapse. They are also very safe. They have been shown to have a lower rupture rate than other types of implants, and there is no need to check with your doctor to make sure that your implants are intact – you can check for yourself by looking in the mirror. If the implant does rupture, the saline inside will be safely absorbed by the body. Patient satisfaction with Ideal has also been very high.

Want to see what you may look like after your breast implant?

What Are Ideal Breast Implants?

Plastic surgery technology has come a long way since its beginnings, and new and improved techniques and products are being discovered all the time. Ideal Breast Implants are the newest kind of implant, and they have many benefits over the older kinds of implants.

Here is some more information on these implants, their benefits, and why they are becoming more and more popular.

Ideal Breast Implants are natural looking

Ideal Breast Implants look and feel natural. They have an internal structure that reduces wrinkling and collapse, which is often seen with other kinds of implants. The saline is held in two different chambers, which helps to contribute to the “real” look of the implants. Even the outside edges of the implant have been designed in such a way to make them look contoured and natural.

Ideal Breast Implants are safe

The structure of these implants not only gives them a natural look and feel, but it also makes them very safe. They contain saline, which is safer than silicone gel, which makes up other kinds of implants. They have been shown to have a higher rupture strength and a lower rupture rate.

In patients with silicone implants, an MRI is recommended every year, to check and make sure they haven’t ruptured. If a silicone gel implant does rupture, it can be very painful and must be removed surgically. However, with an Ideal Breast Implant, all that is needed is a look in the mirror to check that everything is all right and your implants are intact. If a rupture should occur with an Ideal Breast Implant, the saline is absorbed into the body harmlessly.

Although there are many options for breast augmentation, Ideal Breast Implants have many benefits to consider. They are safe and natural looking, and patient satisfaction with this type of implant has been very high ever since they first started being used. If you have been considering implants, call Dr. Gary J. Price in New Haven and Fairfield County, CT, to discuss if Ideal Breast Implants may be right for you. Differences between breast implants

When a patient is considering undergoing a breast augmentation, there are many choices when it comes to implant type, size and placement. Here are seven things you should know about breast implants and their differences.

  1.     Silicone breast implants are the most popular implant type because they consist of a gel that feels most like natural breast tissue.
  2.     Silicone gel implants won’t collapse when ruptured or leaking, which is why you will need to see your surgeon regularly to ensure your implants are intact. If it ruptures, the gel may remain in the shell, but it could leak into the breast implant pocket without you knowing.
  3.     Saline implants consist of an outer silicone shell that are inserted into the breast implant pocket and then filled with sterile salt water. This allows for smaller incisions and custom sizing during surgery.
  4.     If a saline implant ruptures or leaks, the implant will collapse, and the patient will know right away. The body will naturally absorb and process the sterile salt water.
  5.     Silicone implants are FDA-approved for patients ages 22 and older, while saline implants are approved for patients 18 and older.
  6.     The IDEAL IMPLANT is a type of saline implant that has additional structure to give the patient a more natural feel. It’s similar to a traditional saline implant in that if it ruptures, the body will absorb the harmless saline.
  7.     During your consultation, Dr. Price will discuss different placement options. Submuscular implant placement is the preferred method because it provides a more natural appearance and less chance of wrinkling or rippling. Subglandular implant placement means that the breast implant is placed behind the breast tissue and in front of the pectoral muscle. It helps women who have sagging but don’t want a breast lift.

Dr. Price uses a 3D imaging system to help you see what your body would look like with different implant sizes. If you are interested in learning whether you are a candidate for breast augmentation, call (203) 453-6635 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Price.

How do I choose between breast implants?

If you’ve been thinking about getting fuller, larger breasts, you know that you have many decisions when it comes to the size, shape and implant material. How do you decide? Read on to learn about the different options for breast implants.

Silicone or saline implants?

FDA-approved for women age 22 or older, silicone breast implants are the most popular because they consist of a gel that feels like natural breast tissue. In case of implant rupture, the gel may stay in the shell or leak into the implant pocket. You may not notice that it is leaking, which is why you have to visit your surgeon regularly to ensure the implants have maintained their structural integrity.

FDA-approved for women age 18 and older, saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater and inserted into the breast implant pocket before they are filled. This allows for smaller incisions and custom sizing during surgery. One of the biggest draws to saline implants is the fact that if there is a leak in the shell, the implant will collapse and the water will be naturally absorbed and expelled by the body. The IDEAL IMPLANT is another saline option that offers additional structure and shape.

How do I choose the right size?

With the aid of the Vectra 3D imaging system, Dr. Price can show you what your body would look like with different implant sizes. This helps you feel more comfortable and confident in making decisions about size as you plan surgery.

Where will the implants be placed?

There are two options for breast implant placement. The preferred method of placement is the submuscular implant placement. This consists of placing the implant beneath the pectoral muscle and above the chest wall to create a natural pocket. There is less of a chance for noticeable wrinkling or rippling with this placement, and it looks more natural.

The other placement type is the subglandular method. With subglandular placement, the breast implant is placed behind the breast tissue and in front of the pectoral muscle. This is recommended for women who have sagging but don’t want a breast lift.

What are my breast implant options?

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic procedure, with around 300,000 breast augmentation surgeries performed in the United States each year. There are many options when it comes to implants and the way they are inserted, giving you a lot to consider when making your decision.

Here, we break down the differences between implants and placements:

Silicone gel implants

Silicone gel implants feel most like natural breasts. They are made of a silicone outer shell filled with medical-grade silicone gel. These gelatin-like implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women ages 22 and older. If the implant ruptures, the gel may remain in the shell or some of the silicone gel can leak into the breast pocket. Known as a “silent” rupture, you wouldn’t know that a leak has occurred since there is no collapse of the implant. You will need an MRI scan every two years to make sure

Saline implants

FDA-approved for breast augmentation in women ages 18 and older, saline implants start as empty implant shells that are placed into the breast pocket and filled with sterile saltwater. If the implant ever leaks, it is absorbed by your body and expelled naturally.

IDEAL IMPLANT®

Also filled with saline, this new implant has a natural feel thanks to its internal support structure that controls the movement of saline. If this implant ruptures, it also gets absorbed by the body safely and naturally.

Choosing implant size

With the aid of a 3D imaging system, you can get a preview of how your body will look with different implant sizes, which will help you make a more confident decision.

Choosing implant placement

There are two options for breast implant placement: subglandular and submuscular. For women who have significant sagging but don’t want a breast lift, a subglandular placement may be recommended. This is when the implant is placed behind breast tissue in front of the pectoral muscle. The implant is placed firmly behind the chest muscle wall with submuscular placement. This is preferred by plastic surgeons over subglandular as there is less noticeable wrinkling or rippling and the placement is more natural-looking.

How to Tell If You Need to Have Your Silicone Breast Implants Redone

Breast Augmentation Guilford CTIn a perfect world, breast implants would last for your entire life, but that’s unfortunately not the case. Although silicone breast implants can last a really long time, you will likely need to have them done every 10 to 15 years. So, how exactly can you tell whether or not you need to have yours redone?

It’s Been Over 10 Years Since Your Last Breast Implant

On average, silicone breast implants last over 10 years. Although some patients can get a longer life out of their implants than others, it’s usually not until at least after a decade that we encourage parents to come back in and get their breasts redone; that way you cut down on potential problems from happening and you get perkier breasts in the process.

You Have a Leak

One of the trickiest parts about silicone breast implants is that they can be really hard to detect. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recommends that patients conduct regular self-exams and come in for checkups to make sure that their breasts are still intact. If you feel like your implants feel abnormal or if you haven’t had them check in a while, come into our office and Dr. Price will either examine them himself or order an MRI to make sure that there isn’t a leak.

Your Breast Plants Are Lopsided or Misshapen

Natural breasts usually aren’t symmetrical but implants should always be symmetrical. If you have noticed that your breasts are changing shape or if they seem a little bit lopsided, then this is a sign that you may have a leak or that your implant just needs to be redone.

If you are worried that it’s time to get your breasts redone, come into our office for an exam. To learn more about breast implants, contact our Guilford office and call us at (203) 453-6635.

How to Get Your Breasts Done and Still Have Time To Enjoy Thanksgiving Too

Breast Augmentation Guilford CTYou know the old saying, “You can have your cake and eat it too”? Well, here at Dr. Gary J. Price’s office we believe that adage to be true. If you have been wanting to get breast implants done before the holidays but aren’t sure if you will be healed fast enough in time for Thanksgiving, then this article is for you. Let’s take a closer look at some ways that this may be a possibility.

Schedule Your Consultation

The ultimate way for Dr. Price to determine whether or not a breast augmentation before Thanksgiving is going to be a good option for you is to schedule a consultation with him. During your meeting, he will go over the different implant options which will help him determine whether or not you will be healed enough in time. For instance, because saline implants require a smaller incision, patients tend to recover a little bit faster, but we will go over all of this information with you in person.

Take Recovery Seriously

If Dr. Price does encourage you to go ahead with this surgery before Thanksgiving, then you need to make your recovery your number one priority; even if that means having somebody else host the holiday dinner this year. Remember that the more that you baby yourself during the first week of recovery, the more likely you are to heal faster than you would otherwise. Even though you may not be fully recovered and feeling like yourself at Thanksgiving, taking the time to heal for at least a couple of days will help you feel more like yourself for the big holiday.

If you are sick of waiting to get your breast augmentation and you want to have it done just in time for the holidays, then schedule your consultation appointment with Dr. Price at our Guildford office and contact us at (203) 453-6635.

3 Things to Know About the Ideal Implant

Breast Augmentation Guilford CTHaving the perfect body, the perfect hair, and the perfect breasts would be ideal and here at Dr. Gary J. Price’s office, we can make at least one of those things happen. As the newest type of implant that we offer at our office, the Ideal Implant is popular for a variety of reasons. Let’s take a closer look at three things to know about this type of implant and what makes it really ideal.

Ruptures Are Obvious

The FDA encourages patients who have silicone implants to get an MRI scan done every two years to detect any sort of ruptures or leaks. Because silicone is so thick, ruptures are often called silent ruptures because they often go entirely unnoticed. With the Ideal implant, patients will see a visible change right away because saline leaks very quickly. And, because saline is a form of saltwater, it’s harmless for your body to absorb.

There Are Many Layers

Traditionally, when you think of a breast implant, you think of one size sack that contains either saline or silicone. With the ideal implant, there are different chambers or layers within the implant. The inner shell around the inner chamber holds the inner saline filler, and the outer shell around the outer chamber holds the external saline filler. Then, between these shells are one to three baffle shells.

They Look and Feel more Natural

Because of the unique structure of Ideal Implants, they look and feel more natural than other implants which are just a few other reasons to choose them.

Choosing the right breast implants for you and your body can feel like a difficult decision, but it doesn’t have to be. Here at Dr. Gary J. Price’s office, we will help you choose the right size, shape, and type of breast implant for your body. Are you ready to schedule your consultation? Contact our Guilford office at (203) 453-6635.
