Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs

Why should you see a cosmetic dentist? If you care about the health and appearance of your smile, a cosmetic dentist can help you achieve both. Our dentists at Scott A. Babin, DDS and Associates, Dr. Babin and Dr. Keever, offer a variety of cosmetic dentistry services at our offices in Renton and Edmonds. Here are some of the most common cosmetic dentistry FAQs we hear at our office.

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Dental treatments that focus on improving the appearance of the teeth are considered cosmetic. However, cosmetic dentistry uses both aesthetic and medical aspects to ensure your smile is both beautiful and healthy. Treatments include whitening/bleaching, straightening, veneers, dental bonding, tooth reshaping, bridges/implants and complete smile makeovers.

How Long do Cosmetic Dental Treatments Take?

Some cosmetic dental treatments can be performed in one visit. Teeth whitening, dental bonding or teeth shaping are examples of one-visit procedures. At our office, we can complete some dental bridges or cosmetic crowns in one visit. Veneers, dental implants and complete smile makeovers may take multiple visits.

Is Teeth Bleaching or Whitening Harmful?

When performed by a cosmetic dentist, teeth whitening is safe and has very few side effects. Some people may have a slight sensitivity to hot or cold or gum irritation from at-home whitening products. Professional teeth whitening reduces your chance of any negative side effects and ensures your oral health is protected.

Which Cosmetic Treatment is Right for Me?

Each patient has different concerns about their smile. If you are wondering whether teeth whitening, teeth straightening or other treatments are right for you, come talk to one of our cosmetic dentists. Dr. Babin or Dr. Keever can offer recommendations on cosmetic treatments to achieve the smile you desire.

Will Insurance Cover my Cosmetic Dental Treatments?

Elective cosmetic dental treatments are not usually covered by insurance, but there are some treatments that can improve both appearance and oral health. For example, most dental insurance with orthodontic coverage will pay a portion of Invisalign treatment. Talk to our office staff to determine what treatments your insurance covers.
