Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Appliances

Do you snore or gasp at night when you sleep? Obstructive sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder that affects millions of Americans of all ages and genders. Sleep apnea can block your airway, impacting your sleep, causing snoring and putting you at higher risk for serious health complications. As part of our family dentistry treatments at Scott A. Babin, DDS and Associates in Renton, we offer effective treatment for this sleep disorder with our obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) appliances.

Obstructive sleep apnea is often caused by the airway closing, collapsing or soft tissue obstructing the airway. This can lead to periods without breathing while you sleep, which can be dangerous for your health. There are invasive treatments for OSA, including surgery and wearing a CPAP mask while you sleep. A less invasive, yet effective, treatment is the use of a customized nightguard or obstructive sleep apnea appliance.

How Do OSA Devices Work?

An OSA appliance is designed to adjust your bottom jaw, shifting it forward while you sleep. This adjustment allows the airway to stay open, preventing stoppages in breathing and controlling snoring. The device is customized to fit your mouth and teeth. Our dentists can create a digital impression of your teeth that is sent to our dental lab to create your personalized OSA appliance.

OSA appliances offer an alternative to CPAP machines and surgery. You can easily bring your OSA appliance when you travel, and it will not disturb your sleeping partner like a CPAP machine. If you are interested in learning more about OSA appliances, contact us at Scott A. Babin, DDS and Associates in Renton. We can schedule a sleep apnea treatment consultation with one of our dentists to determine if an OSA device is right for you. Our office accepts most forms of insurance, and we have convenient payment options available.
